If you put down a deposit for a hunt, but do not get drawn for a rifle tag, your deposit will forward over to the following year.
Crago Outfitting can accommodate hunters of all ages and experience levels. We can customize each hunt to the fitness level and experience of the hunter to ensure the best chance of success. This includes the type of hunt we offer whether it be spot and stalk or from a blind/tree stand, to getting closer to the animal within range that the hunter feels most comfortable with.
We will guarantee opportunity to all hunters, meaning we will get you within your comfortable shooting range of your target animal. After that, the actual "success" of killing the animal falls on hunter to make a clean, ethical, and lethal shot. If an animal is wounded the guide will make their best judgement on when and how to pursue that animal for a follow-up shot.
At any time during your hunt, if an animal is wounded and blood is drawn, that is your animal. Your remaining time may be spent trying to locate that animal, but you will not be allowed to harvest another animal to replace the one that was wounded. This is at the discretion of the guide and/or outfitter. We always try to get our clients into the range that they feel comfortable with, but we all know that these things can happen to any of us. Thank you for your understanding.
Yes! We also encourage all hunters to shoot their bow or rifle upon arriving to the ranch and making adjustments if necessary before we go into the field. We have targets on site.
After a successful harvest we have a place at the ranch to hang your animal. You have the option to take the meat to a local processor (at your own expense) or we can help you debone the animal at the ranch. If you choose to do it at the ranch, please note that we have limited freezer space and you may need to purchase a cooler and ice to store the meat depending on the temperatures outside.
If you drove, it is easy to pack your meat in a cooler to take home. If you are flying home you can pack your frozen meat in a suitcase or cooler and check it on the plane. There are no special requirements by TSA or any airlines for traveling with meat. You are also allowed to carry on up to 50 pounds of meat on the plane as long as the meat is entire frozen. They will stop and pull the meat out at the TSA security checkpoint to ensure it is frozen.
Yes! We charge $100/day for non-hunters.
If you have an injury and a note from a doctor stating you cannot physically pull back a compound bow you can apply for a crossbow permit through the South Dakota Fish and Wildlife website. Please contact us if you plan to submit an application for a crossbow permit.
